Collapsed in the heart,
Of a leaden despair;
I sobbed aloud,
Unto Might unseen;
To Glory scarcely known:
Yet which I now knew,
Was the God of my life.

Doest Thou open
Thine eyes,
On such a one as me?
And bringest me in,
To a life with Thee?
Would Thou give peace;
To one clothed in ash?

Like a beggar,
Escaping from the Dogs
Of the street;
Did I fling open the door,
Without looking back;
To seek the presence,
Of the Living One.
